Where shall we go?

There is more than one way to make a date memorable. I’m just as happy getting dressed up for dinner as I am laughing our way through something a little unexpected. Pick a place, tell me your idea or let’s dream one up together.

Dinner & conversation

London gives us plenty of choice: a long lunch, seafood or shellfish, Japanese food or a beautiful dinner in Chelsea, Knightsbridge or the West End. J Sheekey is one I’d happily revisit, especially if we’re heading to the theatre afterwards. For a view over the city, there’s Duck & Waffle or 14 Stories. The conversation matters more than the wine so there’s never any pressure to drink.

A night out

Think a quiet cocktail bar, live jazz, a rooftop view or a show in the West End. I love the theatre and musicals and ABBA Voyage would make a wonderfully playful evening. We could start with dinner and see where the night takes us.

Something playful

Mini golf, go-karting, an escape room, The Crystal Maze or even a theme park if you can keep up with me. I also love magic and illusions, especially when we end up debating how it was done. Give me a mystery to solve or something that makes us use our brains and I’m in. A little friendly competition is a very good way to break the ice.

A very British afternoon

If you’re visiting from abroad, let me show you a little history with our date. We could wander the rooms and gardens of Hampton Court Palace, make a day of Windsor Castle or choose a castle further afield if we’re escaping London. Add afternoon tea or a long lunch afterwards and we have a lovely excuse to linger.

A slower escape

Galleries and exhibitions, a spa day, a countryside retreat or a picnic at Box Hill or Beachy Head. For a vineyard afternoon, Bolney Wine Estate in Sussex and Chapel Down in Kent were on my old list. Tasting is entirely optional; we can enjoy the scenery and lunch. London is lovely but I’m equally happy travelling across the UK, Europe and further afield by arrangement.
